How often have you heard in the media and even from others that the Catholic Church needs to get with the times? The Church’s positions are seemingly outdated on moral issues including marriage and divorce, contraception, stem cell research, homosexual relations, women’s ordination, and the list goes on and on. What’s wrong with the Church that it doesn’t embrace cultural moral changes? The answer is very simple. We received our faith and our morals from Jesus Christ Himself. Since Jesus is God, He cannot make a mistake. He got it right from the beginning. And Jesus is Truth. Remember, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
We are Catholic. We cannot make more perfect what is already perfect. Eternal Truth is immutable. As Catholics, we are called to be obedient to the Truth whether we like it or not or believe it or not, accept it or not. We are called to obediently follow the teachings of the Church. Obedience to these teachings comes with many blessings. And obedient souls will receive much grace.
Ponder: How do you explain Catholic moral teachings to others? Can you adequately defend Church teachings?
Reflect: Sacred Scripture, John 14:5-6
Pray: Heavenly Father, help me to better understand your plan for the salvation of my soul.
