It is no longer unusual for Catholics to openly discuss their grievances with particular teachings of the Catholic Church. We all know the most common areas of divergence from the Church. In our secular world, many who call themselves Catholic support social issues that oppose the Church such as gay “marriage”, abortion, cohabitation outside the covenant of marriage, and the list goes on and on.
In addition, most Catholics do not accept the fundamental teaching of the Eucharist as the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. Many have abandoned Mary and the saints as intercessors in their prayer life, if they pray at all. If we no longer believe these fundamental principles of our faith, we no longer stand on solid ground.
It’s time for all Catholics to learn about the Catholic faith, pick up a Catechism, and pray for understanding. If Catholics knew what they had, they could never leave the Church. If Catholics knew what they had, they would make serious attempts to get to daily Mass and to go to confession frequently.
We are Catholic. Picking and choosing what we follow is like being in a buffet line and choosing unhealthy options. And, this ala carte path is not Catholic. Jesus Christ gave us His Church for our salvation. Let’s begin in humble obedience to follow all the teachings of the Catholic Church and stick to His menu, not the ala carte options offered by the world.
Ponder: What Church teachings to you have difficulty accepting?
Reflect: Lk 6:12-19
Pray: Come Holy Spirit living in Mary and fill me with your gifts of wisdom and understanding so that I may become an obedient Servant of Christ.
