Most married couples, particularly those who have been married for a long time, really know their spouse. Spouses know each other’s habits, the foods they like, the activities they pursue, and many other intimate details unique to their loved one. Over time, husbands and wives become attuned to one another’s feelings without words ever being spoken. The foundation of this marital knowledge is built on love.
God, our very creator, knows us even more intimately. He knows our every thought. He even has counted every hair on our head! God’s love for us is unfathomable. To show his love, God sent us his only begotten Son, Jesus, to provide each one of us a means to eternal life with the Father. The bottom line, God yearns for us to be with him today and for all of eternity because he loves us so very much.
We are Catholic. We are called to respond to God’s love for us and to get to know him, in a very intimate way, just like we would our spouse. This unique intimacy can only be found in the Eucharist, Jesus Himself. Receive Jesus in this intimate union frequently, even daily, to be filled with God’s deep and abiding love in us. Only in the Eucharist in the Catholic Church can we experience this profound intimacy.
Ponder: In addition to receiving the Eucharist frequently, what other ways can we show our love for God?
Reflect: Sacred Scripture, John 6:56
Pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for the special gift of intimacy with your Son, Jesus, in the Eucharist.
